  • What is the difference between resurfacing and seal coating my drive?

To learn about how resurfacing and seal coating differ from each other, give our team at United Asphalt Company LLC a call. Our paving contractors are happy to answer any questions you might have!

  • When it comes to my asphalt driveway, what is the difference between sealcoating and resurfacing?

The primary difference is that resurfacing is a structural repair that will extend the useful life of your asphalt surface. It involves patching (if necessary) and resurfacing the entire surface with a new overlay of 1 ½” to 3″ of hot bituminous asphalt. Sealcoating is not a structural repair and it only involves the application of a sealant. Sealcoating will protect and extend the life of your asphalt, but it will not address structural flaws. With that being said, sealcoating your driveway is much less expensive than resurfacing it.

  • What services do you offer?

Our company offers residential and commercial asphalt paving, sealcoating, concrete sealing, excavation, and commercial snow removal services to the Greater Capital District area.

  • When is it safe to drive on my new asphalt driveway?

Your new asphalt surface can take over 30 days to fully cure. Curing time depends on temperature variations as night passes to daytime. But generally speaking, you should be able to drive on the surface after two to three days if you are careful.

  • My car left tire scuff marks on my new asphalt pavement. Are they permanent?

Tire scuff marks sometimes happen when you turn your car’s steering wheel while the car is stationary. If the temperatures are high and the asphalt has not fully cured, the asphalt surface can become blemished. It's like grinding your heel into a soft substance. The good news is that most of this will become less noticeable over time.

  • When should I have my new asphalt driveway sealed?

It all comes down to the amount of direct sunlight and traffic your driveway receives. As a rule of thumb, a surface should not need to be sealed more than every three or four years. If you have it sealed too many times, it becomes very smooth and slick when it rains.
